Pittsburgh to China?

(Article about potential business and flights between Pittsburgh and China.)

On my last post I asked about about ways in which transportation might actually separate or divide people and places.  Vannevar replied with the following:

“We have a world-class airport. We can’t fly anywhere direct (other than PHL, CLT, ORD).

So we tend to not fly on business, unless we absolutely have to. Because of that (not flying) bias we become more parochial.

Driving or video-conferencing is more cost effective, specially when it’s more than one person traveling.”

I think this is a great example.  But I think I would add a few direct flights to that list.  I fly back and forth (directly) between PGH and Boston quite often.  Jet Blue has some very reasonable fares.

I thought this Post-Gazette article was pretty interesting in that it focuses on the potential of this relationship.  It seems pretty indicative of where Pittsburgh is right now.
