Pittsburgh Oktoberfest Showdown
It’s really the most wonderful time of the year. Yes, that’s right. It’s time for Oktoberfest in Pittsburgh.
This week, the Post-Gazette and the Trib highlighted the two biggest Oktoberfests in the area - the Hofbrauhaus, and Penn Brewery. But there’s really no comparison. Seriously, one is in a big parking lot and one is at the oldest craft brewery in the state. Go to Penn; thank me later.
Tis the season
I’m a huge fan of Pumpkin Ales, especially of Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen it in Pittsburgh. If someone out there knows where I can get my grubby hands on some Smuttynose, could you please point me in the right direction?
Well, you finally did it. You managed to take a brewery that has been through the Industrial Revolution, the Civil War, two world wars, Korean War, Vietnam War and the Iraq war - even the Great Depression - [and] move it out of the city that has supported you since 1861.
